Hat’s Off to This Year’s Shindig!

Hat’s Off to This Year’s Shindig!

For many years, we have celebrated our Treatment Foster Parents and staff during May, Foster Care Month. It is such an honor to work with such dedicated individuals.

This was our second year at Paradise Hills Golf Course, and the western theme did not disappoint. The highlight was a Cowboy Hatband Bar where guests picked out a cowboy hat and chose from a wide variety of hatbands to customize their look. Everyone then had their photo taken in their new hat. Adorable boot and hat cookies from our favorite ABQ Sweet Shop, along with brownies and biscochito bars from Fat City Eats, made for a sweet ending to our hamburger lunch.

Andrew Thomas opened the luncheon with a traditional Navajo blessing. Our speaker, Alvin Sallee — a professor with over 50 years of social work experience and author of Lucky Me: An Adoption Memoir — offered heartfelt encouragement to our parents and staff. Jeff Thompson gave a fitting tribute to Board Member Paul Schmolke, who passed away in December.

Gifts, certificates, and flowers were presented to all Treatment Foster Parents and staff. Serving the children in New Mexico’s foster care system is truly a calling, and the Treatment Foster Parents and staff of Red Mountain Family Services are simply the very best.

Santa Came to Town…

Santa Came to Town…

And he spent a couple of hours spreading cheer to everyone. Santa arrived at Red Mountain Family Services with a sleigh full of presents for all of the children in our foster care program.   He graciously took pictures with each child and some of the adults too. The children were all so happy with their presents. Our Treatment Coordinators had wishlist conversations with each child and somehow—magically, of course—those special requests found their way to the North Pole. We heard “this is the best Christmas ever” over and over.   It was a fun and chaotic day in the best possible way. Foster parents and even some bio parents joined us to celebrate and help with the unwrapping festivities....

We Are Thankful

Each year we host a Thanksgiving luncheon for the children in our foster care program. We do our best to invite siblings, biological parents, and other family members who are important to these children. For some, this gathering marks the first time siblings have been all together in years. It is a deeply meaningful day.   This year was no exception. We hired a professional photographer to capture both the joy of the celebration and family portraits that these children will treasure.   As always, our dedicated staff was on hand to help, joined by Board members and other friends of Red Mountain who served dinner, kept things running smoothly, and shared smiles with everyone.   New this year...
